Abu Dhabi T10 League franchise Bangla Tigers announced their arrival in world cricket through the launching of their logo in Chittagong Saturday.

Prominent industrialist, renowned shipbuilder of south east Asia and owner of FMC Group of Companies and Bangla Tigers, Yasin Chowdhury, FMC Group managing director Khatone Jannath, co-owner of Bangla Tigers Shirajuddin Alamgir, other dignitaries of the port city’s sports arena and members of the media were present at the ceremony held at Chittagong Club.

Chittagong City Corporation Mayor AJM Nasir Uddin was present in the program as the chief guest.

“With direct patronization of Abu Dhabi government, the T10 league has emerged as one of the most exciting cricket tournaments in the world with the participation of the leading cricketers in the world. Bangla Tigers are going to participate in the third season of the tournament with the aim of representing Bangladesh and promoting Bangladesh cricket,” said Yasin whilst addressing the guests.

“I hope the newest format of cricket, T10, will play a significant role in the development of the Bangladesh cricketers. FMC Group believes Bangladeshis all over the world are the owners of Bangla Tigers and thus I will request their full out support in the tournament ahead,” he added.

Shirajuddin emphasized on promoting Bangladesh cricket, not only the cricketers, but also the support staff.

“Following discussions with Abu Dhabi T10 authority we came to the decision to promote team support staff from Bangladesh. We have already appointed former Bangladesh cricketers Aftab Ahmed, Nafees Iqbal and Nazimuddin as head coach, manager and assistant coach respectively. Another former cricketer Yasin Arafat will also work as an assistant coach. We have ensured to keep even the other management staff from our country,” said Shirajuddin.

Mayor Nasiruddin said Bangla Tigers will serve as a new identity for the Bangladeshis living in the middle-east.

“Bangladesh has emerged in world cricket as a powerful team in the last few years but we never had any Bangladeshis owning a team in international cricket leagues. I am delighted to see FMC Group take the step forward and rope in a franchise in the T10 League. I believe the Bangladeshis living in the United Arab Emirates and all over the world will be proud of finally seeing a team representing Bangladesh in an international franchise cricket league,” said Mayor Nasiruddin.

Bangla Tigers were launched as the newest team in the T10 League in September this year.

The tournament is the world’s only 10-over league to be officially sanctioned by the International Cricket Council and licensed by the Emirates Cricket Board.

The players’ draft of the T10 League season 2019 will be held Wednesday.

The eight-team tournament will begin in Abu Dhabi’s Sheikh Zayed Stadium on November 14 and the final will be held on November 24.
